Join BlueNJ: Redistrict: The Montclair Democrats and our partners are urging the NJ Legislature to place a constitutional amendment on the ballot so the people of NJ can decide whether congressional districts should be redrawn by 2028. The amendment would suspend the current congressional redistricting commission and allow the legislature to redrawn the districts.
Let's create 12 NJ Democratic Districts by 2028

Across the nation, increasingly aggressive partisan gerrymandering efforts threaten equal representation and undermine public confidence in our electoral system. Recent decisions by the United States Supreme Court have weakened key protections within the Voting Rights Act, threatening fair representation and diminishing the voices of communities of color, working families, and middle-class Americans.

Many of us supported the creation of a bipartisan redistricting commission because we believed in a fair and independent process. However, fair government only works when all sides respect the same democratic principles. This is a defining moment for our democracy and a time for courageous leadership. We didn't start this fight, but we can win it here in NJ.

Here's Why:

We, the undersigned call on the NJ State Legislature to take immediate action to amend the State Constitution and suspend the current Redistricting Commission.  Read and Sign the Petition Here

Make the Calls

5 Calls is a one step platform that allows you to call or email your State Representatives to demand the Legislature to put redistricting on the Ballot in time for the 2028 Election. Make the Calls

  • The NJ Constitution can only be amended by the Legislature voting to submit the amendment to the voters and the voters subsequently passing the amendment

  • The governor's signature or veto power is not involved in this process

  • Ballot placement requires a simple majority in both chambers in two consecutive Legislative years. (2026 and 2027 Sessions)

  • Once on the ballot, it requires voter approval by a simple majority. Our goal is the November 2027 statewide election when all State Senators are on the ballot

Let's get it to voters for
the 2027 General Election
